Training
Overview
Continuing global market pressures for high quality, safe and environmentally responsible food requires businesses to have rigorous management of all aspects of food production and distribution. The implementation of improved practices however, is dependent on training support for skills and knowledge development of all staff. A specific challenge faced by the perishable food industry is to effectively skill all personnel in cold chain management. The Cold Chain Centre (CCC) has accepted this challenge and is ideally positioned as a national and international skill provider for the entire supply chain.
The whole of chain approach which underpins international perishable food distribution includes participants in a range of different industries, roles and locations from 'paddock to plate'. Research has found that there are some significant knowledge and skills gaps in the handling and transport of perishable products throughout the chain. The Food Export Logistics Training (FELT) courses have been developed to specifically address these identified gaps. The courses provide participants with the required knowledge for effective cold chain operation while developing practical application of skills in the workplace. Each participant undertaking a course, will understand the importance of integrated cold chain logistics throughout the entire supply chain, while receiving targeted training for application in their industry sector. The development of the FELT courses has recognised the importance of all participants in the domestic export chain and the international import chain. The courses have a high degree of flexibility in delivery with core material supplemented by a large number of 'elective' modules. This allows the courses to be tailored to the needs of the company, group of learners or in fact, the country in which the courses are delivered. |
